LINCOLN, Ill. —  Addiction.  Overdose.  These are words becoming all too familiar to families in the Logan County area. Last year, six people in Logan County lost their battle with the disease. The problem is not only isolated here, the numbers across the country are troubling. Opioids are the heart of the issue. Some cases begin with abuse of  pharmaceutical prescription medication like Vicodin or Morphine, this abuse can later lead to addiction. Others find street versions, like heroin, out of desperation in the pit of the disease. No-one can quite understand the true power addiction has over you, unless they have gone through it, or have watched a loved one.

A task force was assembled last year in Logan County.  Organizations affiliated with the Opioid/Heroin Task Force are Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Logan County Department of Health, Memorial Physicians Services, Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois,  Lincoln Police,  Logan County Sheriffs Office,  and Lincoln/Rural Fire, and LCPA. Together this committee is working together to implement a four step pillar system to help awareness on drug abuse in Logan County.
